MCSO Press Release

Today, (12/04/2018) at 7:55 a.m., deputies were called to McKay Road NE near French Prairie Road NE  after four vehicles collided resulting in multiple injuries and one fatality.  In all two people were transported to the Salem Hospital with injuries, two people were treated on scene and sadly one person has died.

Investigators believe a small SUV was traveling east on McKay Road when for unknown reasons it began driving in the oncoming (west bound) lane.  The SUV first side swiped a large work truck that was west bound on McKay.  The work truck avoided the head on collision by steering into the east bound lane.

The SUV continued westbound and struck an oncoming passenger car head on.  A fourth vehicle, a truck,,traveling west bound, rear ended the small SUV.  Investigators believe the glare from the sun is a contributing factor in the crash.

The driver of the work truck was treated on scene and released, the two occupants of the passenger car were transported to Salem Hospital and are expected to survive their injuries.  The driver of the SUV died on scene and the driver of the truck was treated on scene and released.

McKay Road is closed at French Prairie Road NE and Highway 219.  The closure is expected to last over the next several hours while specialized investigators examine the wreckage.  The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Oregon State Police and the Keizer Police Department.
