French Prairie Residents: You can’t predict… But you can prepare!
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is an all-risk, all-hazard training. This valuable course is designed to help you protect yourself, your family, your neighbors and your neighborhood in an emergency situation. CERT educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact your area and trains you in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
CERT is taught by certified trainers, North Marion CERT courses are sponsored by Marion County Emergency Management, and hosted at the local fire stations. Following a disaster this community training can help save and sustain lives until professional help arrives. Many CERT volunteers are also willing to serve on an on-call basis for regional disasters, but it is not required.
In the CERT course they say: “Do the Greatest Good for the Greatest Number of People.” When you are trained, you are far more equipped to deal with your circumstances without needing aid from outside sources. You will learn how to prepare for emergencies, what supplies you should NOW have in your house, how much food, how much water but most importantly, how to protect your family. The course is free of charge, study materials are included, and you can purchase a CERT backpack that comes with basic CERT supplies.

The course includes 22 hours of training and each will be conducted on two consecutive weekends. You must contact North Marion CERT directly to reserve your spot: NorthMarionCERT@gmail.com or (503) 804-6391
