Drowning Victim Recovered From Willamette River Near Newberg.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. this evening, callers phoned 911 to report an 18 year old male had disappeared while swimming in the Willamette River near Roger’s Landing in Newberg. Callers advised the male was not wearing a personal flotation device.

TVF&R’s Water Rescue Team quickly responded from the Newberg fire station and began searching the water by boat, utilizing thermal-imaging technology and rescue swimmers.

The search was eventually modified to a recovery mission with the assistance of the Lake Oswego Fire Department Dive Rescue Team.

At around 8:45 p.m. the swimmer was located deceased, in about 20 feet of water, a short distance downstream from Roger’s Landing.  He was identified as Wesley J. Warmoth, 18, of Newberg.

“Our hearts go out to the family of this young man.” said Sheriff Tim Svenson. “This is a tragic situation that unfortunately plays out all too often in Oregon rivers and lakes. We will keep this family in our thoughts.”

In addition to TVF&R’s Water Rescue Team and the Lake Oswego Fire Department Dive Rescue Team, assistance was provided by the Newberg Police Department and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol.
