Marion County Elections has released the first results for today’s primary election. A couple of items of interest:
- 5th District Congress Republican primary – Amy Courser with 51%, easily ahead.
- Measure 24-444 Hubbard FD local option tax levy passing 60%-40%

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of ballot drop sites in Marion County has been reduced. Here’s the list of ballot drop sites in the north end of the County and their status:
- Donald City Hall – Temporarily Closed
- Gervais City Hall – Temporarily Closed
- Hubbard City Hall – Temporarily Closed
- Mt. Angel Public Library – Curbside Dropoff
- Silverton – Curbside Dropoff
- St. Paul – US Bank branch – Temporarily Closed
- Woodburn Public Library – Curbside Dropoff
I-5 southbound lanes south if Salem have reopened.
Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire Departments from Woodburn and Marion County FD, along with EMS and a dive team, are actively searching the Willamette River at the Wheatland Ferry crossing for a car that drove off the east on ramp into the river shortly after 4pm today. The occupants of the car have not been located.
The ferry is closed for the incident and the scene is still active. Please avoid the area.
February 28 UPDATE: On Thursday, February 27th, deputies recovered the unidentified body of a male in the Willamette River near the Buena Vista Ferry. Following an autopsy conducted earlier today at the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office, investigators believe they have tentatively identified the deceased person. In the coming days additional investigation will be done to confirm the identity, at which time the next of kin will be notified. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our community members for their efforts to help attempt to identify the deceased male. No further information is available for release at this time.
Press Release From MCSO: On February 27th, 2020, at approximately 11:22 am a boater reported finding a partially decomposed body in the Willamette River near the Buena Vista Ferry. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to investigate along with emergency personnel from the Jefferson Fire District. Marine Patrol and Search and Rescue Deputies were able to coordinate the recovery of the deceased by boat.
At this time it is unknown how long the deceased, an unidentified male, has been at the location. Investigators are working to attempt to determine the identity of the deceased; an autopsy is scheduled for 10:30 am on February 28th at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about missing persons believed to have been in the area to contact Detective Bob Evarts at 503-588-8507.
From ODOT: OR 22 just east of Idanha is opening to all traffic by 9:45 p.m. this evening. The road had been closed between Idanha and the OR 22/U.S. 20 junction since last Sunday morning when a double tanker carrying fuel crashed spilling most of its load. A 600 foot section of road needed to be excavated, removing contaminated materials and then rebuilt.
